Janata Dal (Secular) workers and legislators, led by the former Minister H.D. Revanna, on Thursday staged a protest against the distribution of saris, as well as against the “stalling of development works taken up by the JD(S)-BJP coalition Government”.
They took out a procession wearing black bands on their arms and shouting slogans. The protesters also held a public meeting, braving the rain that lashed the city for more than an hour. Leaders, including H.D. Revanna and Putte Gowda, addressed the large gathering of workers and dubbed the distribution of saris as a cheap political gimmick by the BJP Government to garner support before the elections to the taluk and zilla panchayats.
