BANGALORE: The Janata Dal (Secular), which has firmed up an alliance with the Congress for elections from the local authorities constituencies to the Legislative Council, has favoured a similar arrangement for the upcoming elections to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

“We want the alliance with the Congress to continue even for BBMP polls,” Y.S.V. Datta, the party spokesman, said at a press conference here on Wednesday.

He was responding to the reported comments by AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka, Ghulam Nabi Azad’s appeal to make the alliance enduring. However, the Janata Dal (S) leader said that the reservation list for BBMP wards was not only “unscientific”, but also smacked of the BJP Government’s mistrust with minorities. “The list appears to have been prepared keeping in mind the wards dominated by minority communities,” he said and accused the BJP Government of giving a “go-by” to the concept of social justice.

He also took serious exception to failure of the Government to invite objections before publishing the list in the gazette. He said the BJP was not in favour of holding early polls as it was aware that the party would be routed.

He said the party’s State unit president H.D. Kumaraswamy would hold discussions with legal experts on the ward reservation list.
