The former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) national president H.D. Deve Gowda on Friday said the party would release list of candidates for half of the Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka by mid-January.

Speaking to presspersons here after a meeting with party leaders, Mr. Gowda said the process of selecting candidates, by holding discussions with taluk and district units, has commenced. Candidates would be selected only after consulting local units of the party, he said.

Mr. Gowda said the party would not have a pre-poll alliance with the Congress or the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He alleged that the Congress at the national level and the Bharatiya Janata Party at the State level, have not only cheated the people, but they have indulged in large-scale corruption. Depending upon consultations at the national level, the JD(S) might have a pre-poll arrangement with the Bahujan Samaj Party, he said. As of now, it has decided to contest all the 28 constituencies in Karnataka.

Mr. Gowda said there is neither a Modi wave nor a Rahul wave.On the other hand, the third front, which is in the process of being formed, has brighter chances of coming to power.
