He will file nomination papers around noon today

Bangalore: Mysore District Veerashaiva Samaj president Shivabasappa is stated to be common candidate of the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Bharatiya Janata Party for the byelection from the Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency in Mysore scheduled to be held on December 4. It will be a direct contest between him and former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who is the Congress candidate.

Filing of papers today

Mr. Shivabasappa is scheduled to file his nomination papers before the returning officer around noon on Friday. Mr. Siddaramaiah and several other candidates would also be filing their nomination papers on Friday.

Senior leaders of the Janata Dal (Secular), including former Prime Minister and JD(S) president H.D. Deve Gowda, who rushed to Mysore on Thursday evening finalised the candidature of Mr. Shivabasappa after hectic parleys. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy will be at Mysore when Mr. Shivabasappa files his nomination papers.

The other serious contender for the JD (S) ticket, A.S. Guruswamy, who narrowly lost to Vijayashankar of the BJP in the last Lok Sabha elections for the Mysore seat, has threatened to contest the elections if the JD(S) denied him the ticket.
