Bangalore: Jayalakshmi, a nurse, who alleged that Minister for Excise M.P. Renukacharya had harassed her, has threatened to petition Governor H.R. Bhardwaj to advise the State Government to drop the Minister from the Cabinet.

Mr. Renukacharya is facing charges of extortion, breach of peace, criminal intimidation and insulting the modesty of a woman following a complaint by Ms. Jayalakshmi. She had claimed that her life was in danger. However, the Minister has denied the allegations.

The case has been pending since 2007 and a court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Mr. Renukacharya for repeated failure to attend the court when the case against him came up for hearing. Later, he avoided arrest by presenting himself in the court. Bangalore City police have clarified that Ms. Jayalakshmi has not been extended protection. In the past, the police had provided her an armed police escort. Minister for Energy K.S. Eshwarappa said that it was better that Ms. Jayalakshmi remained silent on the issue. Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had accommodated Mr. Renukacharya in the Ministry to quell dissidence, he said.
