Government employees, including senior officials, held a jatha here on Friday as part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme.

Speaking after inaugurating the jatha, Deputy Commissioner M.T. Reju said the aim of the jatha was to encourage urban voters to turn out in large numbers for voting in the Assembly elections. S.A. Prabhakar Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of Udupi Zilla Panchayat, extolled government officials to encourage urban voters to vote. Such jathas would be held at the taluk-level also, he said.

The jatha began at Jodu Katte and passed through the Old Taluk Office Road, Diana Circle, Kavi Muddana Road before culminating at the Service Bus Stand.
