Tourism Minister G. Janardhan Reddy has challenged the Congress to contest from Bellary (city) and win the byelection, a situation which would be created, if the latter was ready.

Addressing a rally as part of the ‘Swabhimana Yatra', which entered the fourth day, at Kampli in Hospet taluk on Saturday, Mr. Reddy said he would ask his brother G. Somashekar Reddy, who represents Bellary (city) Assembly constituency, to resign, which in turn would create an opportunity for the Congress to test its popularity.

He threw the challenge to Congress leaders R.V. Deshpande, KPCC president; Siddaramaiah, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly; and D.K. Shivakumar, working president of KPCC. He said any of these three leaders, who were in the forefront of the Bellary Chalo padayatra, could take up the challenge.
