State government is promoting regional sports and facilities, the minister says

Minister for Fisheries and Youth Services Abhayachandra Jain said on Saturday that he had urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take steps to provide more jobs for sportspersons.

Speaking to presspersons after visiting the Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium here, Mr. Jain said that at a meeting held recently in Bangalore where the Home Minister, Forests and Environment Minister, and Transport Minister participated, he had impressed upon them to recruit more sportspersons in their departments. “It is essential to pass a law providing for at least one per cent of jobs in the Information Technology sector for sportspersons,” he said.

Mr. Jain said there was reservation of jobs for sportspersons in the police department in Punjab.

“We will get the Cadre and Recruitment (C&R) rules of Punjab police so that similar changes can be brought in the C&R rules here,” the Minister said.

He said the Union government is encouraging construction of playgrounds at taluk level to promote sports.
