The stock of jaggery here was piling up in the market yard as sugarcane farmers were not willing to purchase it through auction, which has resulted in the market facing crisis.
Around 42 merchants have submitted their statement to the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) asking the APMC's chief to cancel their permission to participate in the auction. The low price offered in the auction was one of the reasons for the farmers to resist against the merchants.
When 42 merchants decided to boycott the auction, the AMC members and farmers challenged the merchants and decided to stop the auction.
The merchants have asked the Government to intervene and sort out the matter. As famers had demanded Rs. 3,000 a quintal, the matter was decided to be settled after a meeting with Chief Minister Prithivraj Chavan on Wednesday.
