‘Only such parties can ensure welfare of the State’

The political situation has changed considerably now from the periods of Devaraj Urs, Ramakrishna Hegde and S. Bangarappa. It is time that people supported regional parties for the welfare of the State, B. Sriramulu, founder president of the BSR Congress, has said.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, Mr. Sriramulu said that Devaraj Urs, Ramakrishna Hegde and Bangarappa had failed in their attempt at building regional parties because the political situation was totally different then and people were not familiar with that concept.

Besides, these leaders did not make concerted efforts to remain active in politics and that is why they failed to make an impact. Mr. Sriramulu expressed confidence about his party getting good public support all over the State. Mr. Sriramulu said that he had toured the State extensively and got tremendous response from people everywhere.

In the same manner as in other States, including Tamil Nadu, the BSR Congress, a regional party, would be successful in Karnataka this year, he said. Referring to urban local body elections, Mr. Sriramulu said that major national parties like the Congress and the BJP had tried their best to get these polls postponed. But for the intervention of the Supreme Court, these elections would not have been held now.
