The urban local body (ULB) elections are not a referendum on the BJP government in the State, said the former Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda.

Speaking to presspersons here on Friday, he said the elections could not be described as referendum on the government as they were being fought on local issues.

However, there was contradiction in his argument as, to a question earlier, Mr. Gowda said the role played by the government with regard to the elections would give it an edge in the Assembly polls.

He also claimed that BJP government’s achievements would play a role in the outcome of the ULB elections.
