: A competition of traditional games, bhajans and a special demonstration zone of 75 crops would be the special attractions during this year’s Suttur Jatra Mahotsava to be held at Suttur, near Mysore, from February 6 to 11.
Addressing presspersons here on behalf of the ‘Jatra Mahotsava Samiti’, Maleyooru Guruswamy, Arun Balamatti, M.P. Bagali and S.M. Jambukeshwar said as part of the annual fair several events, including lectures, interactions and cultural programmes, were being held.
Mr. Guruswamy said in addition to the Krishi Mela, there would be bhajana mela, wrestling competition, cricket tournament, competitions for women, kite festival, and a vintage car show. Besides, there would be religious programmes, cattle fair, exhibition, mass marriages, and a special drive against consumption of alcohol, he said.
Mr. Guruswamy said that as part of the event, ‘Teppotsava’, ‘Mahadeshwara utsava’, ‘Kondotsava’ would be held apart from ‘Sri Shivaratrishwara Rathotsava’ which would be held on February 8.
To a question, Mr. Guruswamy clarified that in view of chances of minors being married off at the mass marriage, care had been taken to ascertain the age of the bride and bridegroom, and only those with authentic documents would be allowed get married at the event. Mr. Guruswamy said troupes from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra would also participate in the cultural programmes during the jatra mahotsava.
