Questions were asked on 55 topics

MYSORE: If Bangalore is Garden City then name the City of Joy? Which is the State that is famous for Bihu dance? Or where are the postal stamps printed in India?...

It was Quiz Time at Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala where 999 students from 52 schools from the city took part in the 35th Inter-High School Competition in General Knowledge 2006 held on Sunday.

As many as 574 boys and 425 girls took part in the competition and the questions were drawn from 55 topics ranging from sports to current affairs, politics to art and culture, history, science, literature and more.

Local matters too

The subject was diverse and the questions were interesting and ranged from global issues to purely local affairs.

As for instance the candidates were asked to name the superfast train that runs between Mysore and Bangalore and departs from Mysore at 11 a.m.

Another question was to name the park where the annual Dasara flower show is held in Mysore. For the record the answer is Tipu Express and Curzon Park. These came as a relief for students who grappled with more tough questions.

The general knowledge contest is held in memory of Swami Shambhavanandaji under the auspices of Old Boys' Association of Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala. He was the president of the ashram from 1946 to 1972.

The ashram now proposes to conduct similar competition for students from rural areas of Mysore taluk.
