The IAF’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team wins the hearts of people
MYSORE: As promised by the Dasara Festival Committee, the airshow on Thursday turned out to be a bigger and brighter event this time with the “Men in Blue”’ entertaining the 20,000-odd people on a sunny day at the Torch Light Parade Grounds at Bannimantap.
The IAF’s famed Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team won the hearts of the people with its first performance in a Dasara airshow. With amazing manoeuvres and breathtaking formations, the team stole the show with its scintillating performance.
While the aircraft at the centre released white smoke, the other two flying on either side released saffron and green smoke. After a couple of heart-stopping aerobatic acts, they dispersed in different directions, presenting an attractive “Surya Kiran” formation. The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team was formed to showcase the professionalism of the IAF.
Another highlight of the show was the participation of Sarang helicopters. The Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) produced indigenously by the Bangalore-based HAL captivated the crowds.
The show got off to a colourful start with Mysore district in-charge Minister Shobha Karandlaje releasing balloons. Soon after the launch, the Chetak helicopter arrived and showered flower petals.
The IAF’s special force commandos, Garuds, who arrived in a MI-8 helicopter, performed a mock drill of an operation in an enemy area.
This was followed by the flypast of three Dornier aircraft in a “Small boy formation.”
People got up from their seats when the commentator announced the flypast of the fighter planes — two Jaguars and a Hawk. Eight sky divers of the prestigious “Akash Ganga” team were dropped from MI-8 helicopter from a height of 8,000 feet. They landed safely on the grounds with the help of parachutes. The last three divers dropped to the ground presenting a tricolour-like formation.
