1,000 students from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka to participate

HUBLI: Nearly 1,000 students from high schools in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will compete with each other at the two-day seventh South India-level “IT Akshay Pratibha 2009-10” (ITAP) competition to be held in Hubli from February 6. Addressing presspersons here on Monday, working president of the reception committee of the event Ashok Shettar, convenor Suresh L. Bhat and joint secretary B.L. Desai said that BVB College of Engineering and Technology, Hubli, would play host to the event conducted by Vaps Knowledge Services Private Limited in association with various organisations.

Prof. Shettar said that around four lakh students from 500 schools in the three States had taken part in the preliminary rounds of the ITAP exhibition and competition and those selected would be participating in the finals of the South India-level competition.

He said that the competitions included model making, quiz, projects, concept presentation, spot programming and group discussion based on IT-related topics.

Mr. Suresh Bhat said that the events would be held in two categories — senior and middle in which students of classes V to X would be participating. While there would be five events in the senior category, the middle-level category would have four events.

He said cash prizes worth Rs. 1 lakh would be given away to winners. This would be apart from the trophies. Sunil, representative of Vaps Knowledge Services, said that 92 schools from Karnataka had participated in the preliminary rounds. There were four schools from Hubli-Dharwad, which would be participating at the South India-level contest.

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Jagadish Shettar will inaugurate the event, while Home Minister V.S. Acharya will give away the prizes.
