Block-level officers to visit houses for photos

‘EPICs compulsory for the next election'

SHIMOGA: Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Pankaj Kumar Pandey said here on Monday that the special EPIC-100 (Electronic Photo Identity Cards) programme would be held in the district from June 1 to June 10 to issue photo identity cards to voters, in accordance with the instruction from the Central Election Commission.

Addressing a press conference, he said that the block-level officers (BLOs) would visit houses to collect photos of voters. These photos, he said, would be returned after being scanned and inserted in the voters' list. There will be no charges to issue new EPICs. He said that voters were required to get their photos in colour entered in the EPICs.

Mr. Pandey said that photos would be taken on the spot for those who did not have a photograph to spare when the BLOs visited. Voters will have to pay Rs. 5 for this facility for which receipts will be issued.

EPICs would be made compulsory for the next election, he said.
