BANGALORE: Angered by the behaviour of an Opposition member, Legislative Council Chairman Veeranna Mathikatti on Wednesday abruptly adjourned the Council for a day and walked out.

The incident occurred when Janata Dal (Secular) member Srikante Gowda raised to oppose the ruling party members who were demanding that Janata Dal (Secular) member Y.S.V. Datta, who was speaking on the power scenario, should be asked to cut short his speech.

Several ruling members took exception to Mr. Datta making a lengthy speech on power crisis and alleged that he was eating into others' time.

The Chairman asked Mr. Datta to wind up the speech quickly. Mr. Datta responded to this by stating that he would finish soon.

Not satisfied by this, the ruling party members demanded that he should be immediately asked to stop the speech. This led to noisy scenes in the House.
