It is now three years since construction of the Metro Rail began in the city. While commuters endure the concomitant chaos, pedestrians cope with disappearing pavements and lack of facilities to cross the roads safely. Questions are also being raised over the lack of safety measures at the Metro worksite.
M.N. Sreehari, Adviser to the Government on traffic and transportation, pointed how the poor shape of the side roads are causing problems for motorists. Any venture involving lengthy periods of construction should ensure that the side roads be prepared to cope with the volume of traffic. “The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation should properly plan by involving traffic police and traffic experts and minimise inconvenience to people.”
