Social Welfare Minister A. Narayanaswamy on Sunday said the State Government was planning a scheme to provide interest- free loans to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the Ekalavya Model Residential School for the Scheduled Tribes at Konchur in Chitapur taluk, he said this would enable unemployed youth in these communities to start business ventures on their own.

Migration

He said it would also arrest the large-scale migration, particularly among members of the Banjara community, to other States in search of jobs.

He said that at present, the Union Government was not providing funds to Morarji Desai Residential and Kittur Rani Chennamma Residential Schools. “If the Centre comes forward to share the cost of running these schools on a 50:50 basis, the Government is ready to start another 300 such residential schools to extend quality education to the deprived sections of society.”
