M.K. Pattanshetty of the BJP, who is MLA for Badami, is expected to face either the former Minister B.B. Chimmanakatti or Devaraj Patil of the Congress. Mahantesh Mamadapur, an influential leader of the Janata Dal (Secular), is also expected to contest from Badami.

Veeranna Charantimath, MLA for Bagalkot, is certain to get the BJP ticket; Hulleppa Meti, a close associate of Congress leader Siddaramaiah, is a strong aspirant for the Congress ticket.

The former MLA Vijayananda Kasheppanavar is seeking the Congress ticket from Hunagunda, and his challenger will be Doddagouda Patil, BJP MLA.

There is a strong feeling here that this time it will be a straight fight between the Congress and the BJP.
