All BJP MLAs, except Murugesh Nirani, will be renominated

There is intense lobbying by leaders of various political parties for ticket for the Assembly elections.

While there is stiff competition among Congress workers for the party ticket, the situation is clear in the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The BJP, which won all the seven constituencies in the district last time, has announced that all its MLAs would be renominated, except Minister for Large- and Medium-scale Industries Murugesh R. Nirani.

Mr. Nirani, who represents Bilagi constituency in the Legislative Assembly, has decided to join the Karnataka Janata Party and contest from Jamkhandi taluk.

This has brightened the chances of his brother Hanumanth Nirani, a zilla panchyat member, getting the BJP ticket from Bilagi.

Ramanna Talewad is also lobbying for the party ticket.J.T. Patil, former MLA, is a strong aspirant from the Congress. The former Union Minister Siddu Nyamagouda and president of the Prabhulinga Sugar Factory Jagadish Gudagunti are eyeing the Congress ticket from Jamkhandi.

There is speculation in political circles that Kannada and Culture Minister Govind Karjol, who is MLA for Mudhol, may shift to Nagathan in Bijapur district. However, Bijapur BJP district unit president Chandrashekhar Kavatagi has made it clear that the Minister will not contest from Bijapur district.

R.B. Timmapur is most likely to get the Congress ticket from Mudhol. Mr. Timmapur had lost to Mr. Karjol last time.

Actor Umashree of the Congress is expected to taken on Siddu Savadi, MLA, in Terdal. Ms. Umashree lost from Terdal last time.

M.K. Pattanshetty of the BJP, who is MLA for Badami, is expected to face either the former Minister B.B. Chimmanakatti or Devaraj Patil of the Congress. Mahantesh Mamadapur, an influential leader of the Janata Dal (Secular), is also expected to contest from Badami.

Veeranna Charantimath, MLA for Bagalkot, is certain to get the BJP ticket; Hulleppa Meti, a close associate of Congress leader Siddaramaiah, is a strong aspirant for the Congress ticket.

The former MLA Vijayananda Kasheppanavar is seeking the Congress ticket from Hunagunda, and his challenger will be Doddagouda Patil, BJP MLA.

There is a strong feeling here that this time it will be a straight fight between the Congress and the BJP.
