It is the starting point for the overloaded iron-ore lorries: MLA

UDUPI: MLA K. Jayaprakash Hegde said on Monday that the Government should install a weighbridge in Bellary district to stop the movement of overloaded iron-ore lorries.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Hegde said there was no point in installing the weighbridge at Othinene in Udupi district.

The starting point for the overloaded iron-ore lorries was Bellary.

They entered Udupi district after crossing districts. The roads and bridges in all those districts should be protected.

He said the District in-charge Minister V.S. Acharya had given orders for the installation of the weighbridge at Othinene.

But this direction was not being followed and the overloaded lorries were moving freely in Udupi district. He said the State Government instead of repairing the National Highway 17 was blaming the Centre for its inaction and vice versa. The repair work on the Barkur bridge would be completed by November 1.

The MLA said there had been efforts to disturb peace and harmony in his Brahmavar Assembly Constituency recently.

The district administration should take stern action against organisations, which wanted to disturb peace and order in the society, he added.
