BANGALORE: All-India Forward Bloc general secretary and former MP Debabrata Biswas said the inflation rate is highest ever in the country and common man and farmers have fallen victims to this.
Urging the Government to check prices, he said there was a need for the non-Congress parties to unite to pressure the Centre to act on this issue.
Mr. Biswas told presspersons here on Saturday that wrong agricultural policies caused farmers' death across the country. Exorbitant prices of seeds and fertilizers had increased the cost of cultivation. “The country has enough cultivable land, water and other facilities conducive for agriculture. But why is India facing food crisis and why are farmers committing suicides?,” he asked.
Mr. Biswas urged the Centre to declare January 23, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the founder of Forward Bloc, as “Patriotic Day”.
Earlier, party members protested in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue.
