The exercise to determine the allocation to be sought for the Ministry of Labour and Employment in the proposed Union Budget has begun and the proposal would be approved at a meeting with department officials on February 16 and 17,Union Labour and Employment Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge has said.
Mr. Kharge told presspersons here on Friday that discussions were on between the Labour and the Finance Ministries on the final draft of the proposal to be submitted to Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram. Mr. Kharge said he would meet Mr. Chidambaram and seek an increase in allocation of funds.
He said the Union government had decided to constitute a Group of Ministers (GoM) to look into the need for setting up a skills development authority.
Mr. Kharge said the government had also set up a GoM to consider the proposal of issuing identity cards to all residents of the country through the Registrar of Census. On the alleged attack on the staff of a television channel by supporters of Housing Minister V. Somanna in Bangalore on Thursday, Mr. Kharge, while condemning it said nobody could take law into his own hands.
