Horticulture Minister Shyamanur Shivashankarappa on Tuesday dismissed rumours that he went to Delhi to press Congress president Sonia Gandhi to give him a more important portfolio in the Siddaramaiah Cabinet.


Talking to reporters here, Mr. Shivashankarappa said he was satisfied with his present portfolio and that he, along with many Veerashiva leaders, called upon Ms. Gandhi to urge her make Veerashiva a separate religion and consider giving the community certain benefits to uplift them.

He also said that he met many leaders, including Union Home Minister in this regard.

When asked that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had commented in Kolar recently on Mr. Shivashankarappa’s alleged displeasure over his portfolio , Mr. Shivashankarappa said that he would soon meet Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to express his satisfaction over the post.

The Minister said that the government was planning to provide drinking water in the whole of Davangere taluk. In the first stage, potable water will be provided in five villages in Davangere south and 25 villages in the Davangere north assembly segment. And in the second stage pure drinking water would be provided to rest of the places in Davangere, he said.

To adopt ward

The Minister, who is also chairman of the Bapuji Co-operative Bank, said that the bank had come forward to adopt a ward to provide drinking water by spending an amount of Rs. eight lakhs per year. He said he would appeal to other banks and financial institutions to follow Bapuji Bank’s example.
