Ajay Mishra, Chief Conservator of Forests, said preparation of illicit arrack was responsible for elephant attacks in Mudigere taluk that caused loss of life and property.

Speaking to the people of the village at Kundur forest check-post on Wednesday, he appealed to persons living in areas adjoining forests not to prepare illicit arrack . Pointing out that the fermented jaggery solution that was prepared for distillation of arrack could attract elephants , he said the elephant became inebriated after drinking it and went on the rampage.
