Tumkur district has registered a pass percentage of 57.32 in II PU results and is in the 15th place in the State, down four places from last year.
Deputy Director of Pre-University Department, Tumkur, K.N. Ranganath said that last year the district had registered 60 per cent passes and was in the 11th place.
This year, as many as 23,109 students had appeared for the examination in March and 13,245 of them passed.
While Kunigal taluk topped the district by registering 66.29 per cent passes, Pavagada stood last with 47.36 per cent passes. Swamy Vivekananda PU College at Doddasaggare in Koratagere taluk and Chennakeshava PU College at Chennakeshavapura in Pavagada taluk have registered zero per cent pass. Both are unaided colleges.
Kavyashree of Sarvodaya PU College, Tumkur, and Meenakshi of Sapthagiri PU College, Tumkur, have topped the district in science stream by scoring 96.5 per cent. Shubhanga Gautam of Vidyavahini College, Tumkur, stood first in the district in commerce stream by scoring 96.33 per cent.
Shilpakala M. of Basaveshwara Kendriya PU College, Kolala, Tumkur, stood first in the district and third in the State in arts stream with 93.33 per cent marks. Shilpakala, a resident of Kalenahalli, told The Hindu, “She wants to become an IAS officer and serve people.”
Her father, Maranna, and mother, Thulasamma, work as labourers. She said she used to do household chores before going to the college and that she did not take private tuition as she could not afford it. . Shilpakala said proper time management was the key to her success. Shilpakala thanked her college principal and lecturers for her success.
