As many as 118 students received postgraduate diploma in management at the 17th annual convocation of SDM Institute for Management Development (SDM-IMD) here on Thursday.

Gold medals were presented to six meritorious students.

D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala, chairman, SDM-IMD, presented certificates. S. Ramadorai, vice-chairman, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., was the chief guest.

Mr. Ramadorai presented gold medals to Vaishnavi S., Swosti Panda, Pooja Saxena, Sanjay Somashekar, Ghiya Chirag and Vibhu Tyagi.

In his convocation address, Mr. Ramadorai said Information and Communication Technology tools were transforming the lives of the less privileged in the country.

Mr. Heggade said the business sector was facing the need to identify individual competence and competitive ability as per international standards of excellence. Corporate leaders should come out with new strategies and communicate these to the managers, he suggested. He said the education system in general and management education in particular was going through a phase of change.

“This change is also a reflection of the overall change in aspirations whereby we, as a nation, are looking for youth empowerment to bring about a revolution in attitude and culture,” he said.
