Chitradurga: Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) Shankar Bidari has denied the existence of terrorism in Karnataka.

Speaking to The Hindu on the sidelines of 78th Mahashivaratri Mahotsava being held at Kabirananda Ashram here on Sunday, Mr.Bidari said that a small section of the media had misquoted and misinterpreted his statement.

Mr. Bidari said he never stated that terrorist outfits existed in Karnataka.

Mr. Bidari had come in for sharp criticism, mainly from the BJP, for his reported statement.

‘Fully equipped’

To a question, he said the Police Department was fully equipped to take on any challenge.

“The department faces no dearth of funds,” he said.

Earlier, participating in the mahotsava, Mr. Bidari expressed unhappiness over the increasing rural-urban divide, owing to the accumulation of wealth and concentration of development work only in urban areas.

He lauded the works of the ashram which was striving for the welfare all people, mainly those belonging to the backward community.

Superintendent of Police Labhu Ram; retired Kannada lecturer Chandrashekhar Talya and Sri Krishnayadavananda Swami of Krishna Yadav Math were present.
