Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa has said that he had done nothing wrong and the charges against him were baseless.
“Complaints were lodged by misinterpreting my statements at the felicitation programme organised by the Vipra Vedike. I haven’t violated the model code of conduct and I will explain this to the court and the Election Commission,” he said at a press conference here on Saturday.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the felicitation programme was held on March 9 and the notification for the Assembly elections was issued on March 10.
“The charges levelled against me in the complaints are baseless,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.
Mr. Eshwarappa, who avoided a direct reply to a question on his statements on “Love jihad” said: “women are revered in Indian society. It was a private programme and I spoke about my feelings. My intention was good.
“The objective was to create awareness among the people on the prevailing problems.”
