M. Krishnaiah, president of the Karnataka State LAMPS (Large-sized Adivasi Multipurpose Cooperative Society) Tribal Cooperative Federation, has alleged that the police in Hunsur are resorting to “intimidating tactics” to spread fear among Adivasis fighting for land rights.

‘False charges’

Addressing presspersons here on Friday, he alleged that he was arrested and “harassed” by a Hunsur police sub-inspector (PSI), L. Arun, recently on charges of trespassing on the land of a woman, Gowramma, at Hanagodu in Hunsur and ransacking her house. The charges were completely false, Mr. Krishnaiah said.

He alleged that he was being “targeted” by certain people, including a local journalist, G. Mahadevappa, and a farmers’ leader, Hosur Kumar, who lodged the complaint against him.
