Several organisations and institutions celebrated the 63rd Republic Day with fanfare.

Hoisting the national flag at the Nehru Stadium, Hubli tahsildar S.S. Biradar called upon the people to adhere to the principles laid out in the Constitution.

The tahsildar urged people to inculcate the principles of equality and brotherhood, and contribute to nation-building.

Guard of honour

Earlier, Mr. Biradar received a guard of honour from the contingents of the police, Home guards, NCC, Scouts and Guides, and schoolchildren. Cultural programmes presented by schoolchildren enthralled the audience, who comprised people of all age groups.

Peaceful

The flag-hoisting at the Idgah Maidan in Hubli was peaceful.

As per the State Government's order, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner K.V. Trilok Chandra hoisted the tricolour at the maidan.

Mayor Poorna Patil, Pralhad Joshi, MP, Virabhadrappa Halaharavi, MLA, HDMC floor leader Viranna Savadi and others participated in the celebrations at both Idgah Maidan and Nehru Stadium.

Ms. Patil hoisted the tricolour at the celebrations held on the HDMC premises.

Several schools and colleges organised Republic Day celebrations on their premises, while organisations and associations celebrated the day in their respective localities.

Sweets were distributed to the participants after the flag- hoisting.

After the celebrations at their respective schools, many schoolchildren went to Nehru Stadium to witness the taluk-level celebrations.
