The daily wage workers employed in government-run hostels here have demanded action against officials of the Departments of Social Welfare and Backward Classes and Minorities for allegedly failing to pay minimum wages through cheques and deduct provident fund from their salaries.

President of the association Bhimshetty Yempalli said the Gulbarga ZP had agreed to implement the government’s direction of paying minimum wages to employees working in Morarji Desai and Kittur Rani Chennamma Residential Schools and hostels run by the departments.

He said except for the schools, none of the hostels run by the departments had implemented these directions.
