Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, samiti president and former Minister Vaijnath Patil, MLA, said that all efforts were being made to involve all political parties, and student and social organisations in the struggle for getting the rightful share in development and job opportunities for people of the region.

Big success

The first district-level rally, held in Bidar a few days back, was a bigsuccess. The rally in Gulbarga would be held in the presence of the Peetathipathi of Sharanabasaveshwar Samasthan Poojya Sharanabasavappa Appa, and Sajjada Nasheen of the Khwaja Banda Nawaz Darga. Among others who would participate are Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly N. Dharam Singh, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president M. Mallikarjun Kharge, legislators from the district, representatives of political parties and student and social organisations.

Former Minister and honorary chairman of the samiti Vishwanath Reddy Mudnal will preside.

A procession would be taken out as part of the rally and a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner, he said.

Mr. Patil said that the samiti would hold similar rallies in Raichur, Koppal and Bellary to urge the State Government to seek amendment to Article 371, and to announce a road map for implementation of the recommendations of the committee for redressal of regional imbalance.

The Government had not done anything to bring pressure on the Union Government to concede one of the State's long-pending demands to amend Article 371 which would go a long way in setting right the imbalance in educational and employment opportunities in the region.
