The USA-based Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has conferred the honour of ‘permanent fellow of IEEE’ on Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Karnataka, S. Sreenivasa Murthy.
The honour is given in recognition of contribution to the field of self-excited induction generators and renewable energy applications, which will have an impact on off-grid power generation using renewable energy sources such as wind, small hydro and bioenergy, to electrify remote and isolated communities, as also for standby power.
According to a release from the university, in 2013, 298 personalities from different countries have been elevated to IEEE fellow, which is considered an important career achievement.
Through over 4 lakh members in 160 countries, IEEE is a leading authority in a variety of areas such as aerospace, telecommunications and consumer electronics.
