A 45-year-old woman was killed on the spot when she was hit by a car in Madiwala on Monday morning. The deceased, Manjula, a resident of Hongasandra, was on her way to a grocery store when the car driven by Lakshmana Murthy (18) knocked her down. Manjula sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. The Madiwala traffic police rushed to the spot and detained Murthy. Upon verification it was found that Murthy was learning to drive the car belonging to his elder brother, Gangadhar, a cab driver. Murthy who works as steward in a hotel was arrested on the charges of death due to negligence and remanded in judicial custody. Murthy did not have a driving license and was allegedly found drunk, the police said. — Special Correspondent
