Led by the Centre for Indian Trade Unions, the workers of the Himalaya Drug Company have announced that they will strike work on April 19 and stage a dharna at Freedom Park here against the allegedly “illegal and anti-labour practices” of the Rs. 1,000-crore pharmaceutical giant.

Pay hike

In a release, the union said that Himalaya had not given its staff a pay hike in the last one-and-a-half years while pressuring several others to take voluntary retirement.

Contract staff

The retrenched employees have been replaced with 1,000 contract employees who are paid much less, the release alleged.
