The Federation of Karnataka State Physically Challenged, Multipurpose Rehabilitation Workers (MRW) and Village Rehabilitation Workers (VRW), Mysore district unit, has demanded that the honorarium given to MRWs and VRWs be enhanced for 2012-13. Now, the honorarium for MRWs is Rs. 1,800 a month, while it is Rs. 700 for VRWs.

Members of the federation staged a demonstration outside the Deputy Commissioner's office on Friday in support of their demand.

They submitted a memorandum, addressed to Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, to the Deputy Commissioner. “It has become difficult to make a living with our current wages owing to the rising prices of essential commodities. No action has been taken on our earlier demands in this regard,” the memorandum said.

The federation also demanded creation of a separate Ministry for disability affairs for the welfare and development of persons with disabilities.
