Members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, Hasiru Sene and Karnataka Rajya Prantha Raitha Sangha have sought fixation of compensation for the land to be acquired for laying the Dabhol-Bangalore Natural Gas Pipeline based on the productivity of the land in question. They took out a protest rally from Town Hall Circle to the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Saturday to draw the attention of the authorities to the issue.

Govindaraju, district president of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, said that Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) will acquire land in several villages of Shira, Gubbi and Tumkur taluks in Tumkur district to lay the proposed pipeline. Mr. Govindaraju said the compensation fixed for the land to be acquired is very low and that the Government should fix the compensation based on the productivity of the land in question and the loss that the farmers will suffer once their land is acquired. The protesters submitted a memorandumto Deputy Commissioner C. Somashekar.
