Loud-Speaker, a forum for the hearing impaired, is launching a helpline in the city shortly.

According to the forum, the initiative would be a one-stop shop for any information beneficial for the hearing impaired.

The inaugural meeting of the helpline would be held at Dr. Chandrashekar Institute of Speech and Hearing in Lingarajapuram at 4 p.m. on April 21.

The helpline would provide information, guidance and support for parents of children who have hearing problems.

The forum, in a press release, said a lot of parents of such children did not have access to correct information at the right time. As a result, children, even those with minimal loss of hearing, ended up deaf mutes, were ostracised and faced educational deprivation.

Today, there are a lot of advanced medical and speech development methods available, it added. Over 200 people, including doctors, officials and experts, apart from children and their parents would participate in the programme on April 21, Radha Raju, managing trustee of Loud-Speakers, said in the release.
