GADAG: The Gadag district administration has set up a round-the-clock helpline (1077) to help the people during natural calamities.

Chairing the meeting of Disaster Management Authority here on Friday, Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav appealed to the people to make use of the facility at the time of crisis.

Mr. Yadav directed the tahsildars to take steps to prevent loss of life and property in places prone to floods during rainy season. He asked them to prepare lists of flood-prone villages and expert swimmers, availability of boats and other necessary equipment required while tackling floods. He asked the officials to identify buildings well in advance to set up gruel centres during the crisis and take steps to stock essential medicines at primary health centres and hospitals.

Mr. Yadav asked the officials of the Public Works Department to take steps to repair the bridge connecting Lakamapur and Boodihal villages in Naragund taluk.

He asked the officials to ensure disbursement of relief amount to families affected by floods and heavy rains within one month. In-charge additional deputy commissioner Laxminarayana and Assistant Commissioner D. Ranadeep were present.
