HASSAN: The Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala, D. Veerendra Heggade, has stressed the need to study Ayurveda and do more research on the subject. Mr. Heggade was here to inaugurate a hostel building at the Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatha College of Ayurveda and Hospital on Saturday. The college, which was started 20 years ago, now has a full-fledged hospital and a garden of medicinal plants. Mr. Heggade said the traditional system of medicine, which was earlier limited to villages, had not yet expanded its reach as the knowledge of the discipline was restricted to the older generations. Hardly any records were available to conduct an in-depth study of the ancient medical practices, he said.He stressed the need for more research on the subject.

He said the temple trust had instituted a Janapadasiri Award through which one person would be awarded Rs. 10,000 every year for his/her contribution to traditional methods of treatment.
