Looks like it will be a straight fight between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party in Yellapur Assembly constituency. The segment includes Banavasi hobli in Sirsi taluk.

Shivaram Hebbar is the Congress candidate here. He lost the previous elections by a narrow margin, butbelieves that this time, people will vote for him as they have lost faith in the BJP. Congress leaders R.V. Deshpande and Pramod Hegde have already campaigned for Mr. Hebbar.

BJP’s V.S. Patil is seeking re-election from this constituency. He is confident that people will vote for him because of the development works he initiated.

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri have campaigned for him. His son Bapugouda Patil is seeking votes for his father in Banavasi.

Janata Dal (Secular) candidate D. Anilkumar has been reminding people of the good work during the 20-month tenure of H.D. Kumaraswamy as Chief Minister. He is promising to waive farm loans if the JD(S) comes to power. His brothers D. Ravikumar and D. Ajitkumar are busy campaigning for him.

Mahesh Hoskoppa, Karnataka Janata Party candidate, is making his electoral debut. He is trying to woo voters by focussing on the “pro-people” work of the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa.
