Heavy rain is Sirsi and surrounding areas over the past four days has swelled Varada river snapping road connectivity from Banavasi to Ajjarani and Mataguni villages.

Acres of paddy fields in Banavasi, Mogavalli and Bashi have been submerged. MLA Shivram Hebbar has instructed officials concerned to take up measures to evacuate people in the flood hit areas.

In Sirsi town, walls of the house belonging to Bhavani Gangolli in SBI colony collapsed causing an estimated loss of Rs.60, 000. The wall of a house in Marathikoppa collapsed resulting in a loss of Rs.10, 000.

Farming activity has taken a beating and areca growers faced difficulty in spraying fungicides due to rain. Sirsi received 105mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Siddapur received 107.2mm, Bhatkal 80.4mm, Ankola 75.5mm, Haliyal 51.4mm, Kumta 63mm, Karwar 43.3mm, Honnavar 68.2mm, Mundgod 32.2mm, Joida 71mm and Yellapur 62.2mm rainfall during the same period.
