Heavy and intermittent rains lashed the city and surrounding areas on Monday, making it a wet Deepavali this year.

There were intermittent showers in the early hours of Monday followed by bright sunshine for greater part of the day. However, by evening dark clouds gathered over the city; they opened up for a torrential downpour late in the evening. However, the rain did not affect normal life, as Monday was a holiday for most government and private organisations.

The Indian Meteorological Department forecast indicates that there will be rain and thunder shower in a few places in south interior Karnataka and the forecast is valid till Wednesday.

The city and surrounding regions had experienced similar weather on Sunday and the IMD report significant rainfall in parts of Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts as well. — Special Correspondent
