Heavy rain lashed Mandya district on Thursday evening, bringing respite from the sweltering heat.

The downpour, which began at 4.10 p.m. and continued till 7 p.m., brought cheer to farmers. However, it also affected life in different parts of the district.

There were reports of good rainfall in Kirugavalu, Belakawadi and Halagur in Malavalli taluk; Srirangapatna, Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) area, Belagola, Hulikere and Hulawadi in Srirangapatna taluk; Vaidyanatha Pura, K. Honnagere, Kestur, Koppa and Gejjalagere in Maddur taluk; Harohalli, Channalu, Hire Marali and a few places in Pandavapura taluk; Bellur, Kasaba, Devalapura and Chinya in Nagamangala taluk, and Jayanagara, Subhash Nagara, Hosa Holalu and Hemavathi layout in Krishnaraja Pet taluk in the district as well.

According to sources in the Police Department, the rain severely inconvenienced people in Mandya city.

Movement of traffic was affected at several places on the Bangalore–Mysore Highway between Maddur and Srirangapatna.
