MYSORE: Heavy rain lashed the city and parts of the district on Saturday evening providing a reprieve from the searing heat.

People breathed a sigh of relief as the temperature came down drastically though the rains lasted for around 45 minutes. The spell was intense and was not accompanied by heavy winds. Thunder and lightening lit up the skies and low-lying areas were inundated. The downpour began at around 7.20 p.m. and lasted till 8 p.m.

Parts of city plunged into darkness as the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation authorities switched off power supply as a precautionary step in anticipation of high-speed wind that could have caused a mishap.

The temperature was reckoned to be around 37 degree Celsius on Thursday. This is the first major shower since the onset summer.

A similar spell, witnessed in the first week of March, had wreaked havoc in industrial areas of the city and had submerged machinery worth crores of rupees.
