GULBARGA: A healthy baby contest was organised here on Wednesday.
The "Best Healthy Baby" award instituted by the Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital was given away to three babies based on their overall health condition and immunisation practices every month.
Basavaraj Bhimalli, president of the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society, gave away the prizes at a simple function.
Public Relations Officer of the hospital S.S. Hiremath said that of the 200 children who visited the hospital during September, three children in the age group of nine to 24 months were selected for the award. The first prize of best healthy baby was bagged by Shrusti and the second prize went to Tehreen and the third prize went to Lingaraj of Gulbarga.
During October, of the children who underwent regular immunisation and health check-up, Poorvi was adjudged as best healthy baby and Bhavani and Priya ended up first and second runners up. Mr. Bhimalli inaugurated the Voluntary Counselling and Training Centre (VCTC) established in the Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital by the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO). This is the second VCTC to be established by the NACO in Gulbarga. The infrastructure, including the HIV testing kits, medicines and the paramedical staff and counsellors are provided by the NACO for manning the VCTC.
