Vittal Bhimappa Arabhavi shared his anguish with other farmers before consuming poison on Wednesday.
“I am a Kuruba and you (Chief Minister Siddaramaiah) are also a Kuruba. We belong to the same community. We both are shepherds, but you forgot the pains of the lamb you once carried under your arm. Why are you doing this to us?” When he became emotionally charged after his speech, one of the farmers’ leaders calmed him and took away the microphone.
Arabhavi had been participating in the agitation since Monday, but was sent back home on Tuesday. He returned to Belgaum on Wednesday morning. Nobody guessed the tremendous stress he was under until the incident occurred.
