One can safely say S. Ramesh Babu has a ball when he creates new records. In this case, literally. This metallurgy scientist has a penchant for making records, so much so that he has created 50 of them, 41 of them world records.
His recent attempt to set his 41st world record was for the ‘fastest 100-metre basketball dribble, running'.
Mr. Babu (55), covered 100 metres running, dribbling the basketball all the while, in just 16.17 seconds. The tricky task consists of simultaneously dribbling and running at a very fast pace without missing or collision. It took Mr. Babu three months of practice to perfect it.
With 41 world records and nine national records, Mr. Babu said that energy and strength doesn't come from physique, but from the mind. “My next goal is to achieve 100 metres fastest skip-running and I'm hoping it will happen on December 31. My first task was at the age of 35 in 1993. The toughest task till date is achieving the fastest drive from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and back to Bangalore, which took eight-and-a-half days,” he said.
