Three cases of chikungunya at Tejaswi Nagar

Awareness programmes to be held in twin cities

HUBLI: In the wake of laboratory reports confirming three cases of chikungunya, the Hubli Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has taken precautionary measures to check the spread of the disease.

Last month, three cases of suspected chikungunya were reported at Tejaswi Nagar in Dharwad. Subsequently, officials of the Health Department of the HDMC sent blood samples for further tests. “We recently sent 40 blood samples for tests. Of them, the tests confirmed that three persons were suffering from chikungunya. The patients have been given proper treatment,” Health Officer of HDMC Prabhu Biradar said.

Many chikungunya cases were reported in Dharwad district during 2006.

Most of the cases were from the twin cities. After that, not many cases of chikungunya have been reported.

The officials said that the HDMC was not taking any chances.

Apart from fogging and other precautionary steps, awareness programmes would be organised in the twin cities.
